Some sit above the line, some below, alternating along its length so the row never reads as a straight rank of pendants. The whole thing hangs from thin steel cables so fine they nearly disappear, which leaves the bar looking like a single pencil line drawn across the room with the orbs strung on it.

Finish: Matte Black Bar

Light source: G4 bulbs — 5W each A small two-pin bulb, not a screw base. As the bar passes straight through the spheres, they rest securely upon it like beads on a wire. Consequently, despite the fixture's elongated profile, the overall aesthetic remains one of serenity and restraint. For a minimalist look bordering on architectural, the all-transparent glass version is an ideal choice; for those wishing to add a touch of color while maintaining that sense of restraint, a mixed-color version is available, featuring red, milky white, and clear glass spheres strung together on the same bar. Finished in matte black, this fixture is perfectly suited for installation above a kitchen island or a long dining table.

The two versions on this page — all-clear and the mixed row — are only where most people start. Because each orb is blown separately and threaded onto the bar on its own, there is no fixed set. The bar is just under six feet, and a linear light should run about two thirds the length of what it hangs over.So this suits a table or island of 8 to 9 feet. Over a 72″ island — a very common size — it would be far too long, reaching almost end to end.Measure yours first. If it's shorter, ask us: the bar can be made to your length and we'll confirm the orb count before it's built. Much easier than hanging it and seeing.

Will the bulbs be too bright to sit under?

Worth thinking about. The glass is clear, so you can see the bulb inside each orb — that's the look, not a fault. But over a dining table it means a bright point roughly at eye level. Three things fix it: put it on a dimmer (the single best thing you can do); choose warm white bulbs around 2700K rather than cool white; or choose the mixed colourway, where the opal orbs are cloudy and soften their share of the light.

Is the glass real, and is it moulded?

It's real glass, and it's blown rather than pressed in a mould. You can tell by looking: a moulded sphere has a faint seam running around it where the two halves of the mould met. Blown glass has none, because it's formed with air rather than squeezed between two pieces of metal. The walls also vary very slightly in thickness, which is why the light bends a little as it passes through instead of coming out flat.

Why are some orbs above the bar and some below?

Because a straight row of identical lights reads as a rank rather than a composition. Alternating them above and below the line keeps your eye moving along the fixture — and it's only possible because the bar passes through the middle of each orb rather than the orb hanging beneath it.

What bulbs does it take?

G4 bulbs, 5W each — and these are worth knowing about before your fixture arrives. A G4 isn't a screw-in bulb; it's a small two-pin capsule about the size of a fingernail that pushes into the socket.That's what keeps the orbs small and the light source neat inside them. But you won't find them in every supermarket, so buy a few spares when you order rather than hunting for one later. Any lighting shop or online retailer has them.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0995/3466/8143/files/perrin-threaded-orb-linear-chandelier-vidirlighting-isolated-red-amber-glass-orbs-duplicate-webp.webp?v=1792483935
